What to expect at Gate City Bible Church...
We're so excited that you're considering joining us at Gate City! We hope this page helps you give you a look into what to expect on a typical Sunday. Most importantly, we want you to know that you are welcome no matter your church background or lack thereof. If you're skeptical, curious, or testing the waters, that's okay! If you're new to the area and looking for a place to call home, we're here for you! If you've been in Port Angeles a while, and still haven't found your church home, come check us out! If your story is somewhere in between, come on in! We look foward to meeting you!
You can find us at 224 East First Street in Port Angeles, Washington. If you're from around here, you might know our building as the former home of Storm King Crossfit athletic club. Signage in process.

There are multiple places to park in the vicinity. First of all, there is street parking available along First Street. Please be aware of the yellow and red curbs where no parking is allowed. Second, there is limited on-site parking. We ask that this parking be reserved for those with mobility issues and young children. Third, there is a small parking lot directly across the street. Take care in crossing, and please follow all traffic safety laws. Fourth, there is public parking at the corner of Lincoln and First streets. This can be accessed via Lincoln Street between First and Front streets. Finally, there is public parking just southwest of the church on Lincoln street between First and 3rd streets. We also have been generously granted permission to park in the Horizon Title parking lot located at 204 South Lincoln Street. Please see the map below for a visual guide.

Our service officially starts at 10am every Sunday morning, give or take a few minutes depending on if the worship leader is finishing up his morning coffee. That said, we invite you to join us between 9:30 and 10am for a pre-service fellowship time. Part of our building used to be a coffee shop, so we have a great space to get your caffeine fix and a morning treat, connect with others, and relax a little before the service starts. Just hang a right as soon as you come in the main door off of First Street. This is also a great time to check your kids in for children's church or nursery...speaking of kids...
At Gate City we love kids! In fact, our church is chock-full of them! For our youngest attendees we have our Itty Bitty City ready to recieve children ages 0-2yrs as early as 9:30am. For children ages 3 & 4 we have our Mini City, and Kinder to Grade 2 gets to participate in our Little City! Mini City & Little City currently start following the music portion of our service, but this could change as we get settled in our new space. We'll keep you posted! All of our nursery & children's volunteers are background checked and vetted. We also use a digital check-in system for your children's safety and your peace of mind.
Throughout the year, there are other children's events as well. Watch our events page for more information on Vacation Bible School and more!
*Note, there is no Mini City or Little City during the month of July. Itty Bitty City will continue to operate as normal.
Great! We love them too! Kids Grade 3 and up are encouraged to join in with the service with their families. We see this as a unique opportunity for family discipleship as well as laying the groundwork for your kids feeling like they are a part of the church NOW, not just when they become adults. Our older kids and teens serve in various capacities throughout our service. From setting up the preservice refreshments, to participating in worship, passing the offering, and serving communion. We champion our kids and families at Gate City, and we believe you are never too young (or old) to serve the Lord at church!
If you want a little something extra for your teens, how about youth group? Currently, Gate City Youth exists in partnership with IBC Students. Youth group serves students Grade 6-12, and meets on Sunday nights at 6-7:30 at Independent Bible Church, with small groups running from 7:30-8:30pm most weeks. Many of the youth staff are members of Gate City Bible Church, so they will likely see some familiar faces if they attend. There are many youth events throughout the year including outreach events, equipping opportunities, and an annual summer camp and spring retreat.
At Gate City, worship is Jesus-focused and Spirit-led. We have a range of worshippers from hand raisers and enthusiastic wavers to stoic backrow-Baptists. All are welcome. Worship is led by a team of talented men and women who love the church and love Jesus, and our musicians span the decades from age 10 up to 60's. The songs we sing are a mix of modern, traditional, and original music. We like variety here at Gate City and that comes through in our worship.
Yes! We practice communion as part of our weekly service. We see this time of reflection, confession, and celebration as a reminder of our dependence on a Holy God who loved us enough to sacrifice Himself on our behalf. When we practice communion, we join with the all the saints, past and present, in celebration of the Lord Jesus until He returns! If you're a believer visiting with us, please partake as a member of the family of Christ. If you're a non-believer, we ask that you refrain and respect the sancitity of the act.
Our service runs, on average, 90 minutes from beginning to end, but flexibility is a virtue...well, maybe not officially, but we encourage it nonetheless. If you need to leave before the service is over, that's okay too. If you have children to pick up, feel free to enter the children's church or nursery area to retrieve them. Please do not leave them with us; we have nowhere to store them.
Our attendees dress however they are comfortable, while also considering the comfort of those around them. In other words, keep it family friendly. Is dressing up your thing? Great! Some of us wear dresses or button-ups every week! Gym shorts and a hoodie? We meet in a converted athletic club...seems appropriate. Are you more of a jeans and a flannel kind of guy? Great! So is our pastor. Keep an eye out for the guy in the checkered flannel...it only comes in two colors folks!
We wanted a name that was reflective of the city we live in. Gate City was a nickname for Port Angeles from many years ago - indicative of it's unique placement as a gateway to the Olympic Mountain Range as well as the final port stop on the way out of Puget Sound to the Pacific. "The gate" is also a repeated imagery used in the bible - the gate as a place of resolution, decision, and wisdom (Ruth 4:1-11, Proverbs 1:21), the gate as a protection (Psalm 147:13), the gate as the place where heaven meets earth (Genesis 28:17), and the gates of heaven (Rev. 21:12-13) vs. the gates of hell that shall not prevail against the church (Matt. 16:18). We chose "bible church" both to signify our commitment to the Holy Scriputres as wholly sufficient as well as an ode to our sending church, Independent Bible Church of Port Angeles.
